New Apartement Hotel in University Hill - Victoria
This project is part of a new 100-hectare mixed-use development near the RMIT Bundoora Campus. Developed for Quest Serviced Apartments, it includes more than 40 apartments and a range of business facilities over four levels. University Hill, located to the north of Melbourne is a designated growth area containing business parks, commercial, retail as well as residential areas. The 2,000m2 site is characterised by its street corner position on a sloping site
The design avoids the conventional solution of an open, visible ground floor car park supported by pillars and instead takes advantage of the sloping site. The car park is concealed at semi-basement level and the main entry is separated from the car access while the ground floor apartments are elevated. Both these design elements achieve a high level of privacy
Rather than as a stand-alone design, the building aims to make a subtle contribution to the dense urban area shown on the master plan. The composition of the building is simple. The floor slab is repeated and layered over four levels and the structural grid is expressed in the facades to reinforce the street alignment. The entrance and reception area which occupy the corner of the site enliven the street intersection
